GHOSTWALK Santa Paula Audition Notice
SANTA PAULA THEATER CENTER PRESENTS AUDITIONS FOR
GHOSTWALK 2024: THE SPIRITS OF THE OLD SYCAMORE TREE
Santa Paula Theater Center announces auditions Sunday, August 11, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Tuesday, August 13, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, for the 30th year production of GhostWalk. Auditions will be held at The Santa Paula Center. 125 S. Seventh Street, Santa Paula, CA 93060. Phone # 805-525-4645. www.ghostwalk.com.
GhostWalk 2024 will run for three weekends from October 11 through October 27, 2024, with tours running every 15 minutes beginning at 6:30 PM and the final tour at 9:00 PM (final tour on Sunday is 8:30). No appointments are necessary, cold readings from the script. This is a non-equity production. THERE IS NO PAY.

This year’s collection of stories are all based on the historic Santa Paula Sycamore Tree. This year’s tour will begin at the Santa Paula Train Depot, located on the corner of 10th Street and Santa Barbara, and proceed west toward the corner of North 9th Street and Santa Barbara. From there, the route proceeds north to the corner of North 9th Street and Railroad Avenue. Then it enters the Santa Paula Ag Museum's back garden area, eventually ending inside the AG Museum and exiting through the gift shop.
The following roles available are open to all ethnicities:
Spirit of the Sycamore Tree Male 18 – 25 age range
Character - a person who represents the spirit of the tree, welcoming the visitors and giving a short history of the tree that will be played out in stations 2-6.
The Hanging Tree – Male/Female 15 to 17 in age
Character- person playing the ghost of a young boy or girl named Teddy Bow who was bit by a rattlesnake named Misery, now Teddy’s companion in the afterlife, while hiding behind the tree during the hanging of a bandit.
The Buried Treasure – 2 Male 30 to 60 age range
2 men, Joe and Cuss (Stinks), are the ghosts of skunk hunters looking for buried treasure. Cuss is very high-strung and thinks the crowd are ghosts! While checking their traps the skunk hunters overhear soldiers talking about stealing the gold that General John C. Fremont, who is camping with a small dispatch of men under the tree, is taking from Los Angeles to San Francisco. The skunk hunters want the gold to send away for mail-order brides.
The Woman in White – Female 18 to 20 age range
Character- 1 young woman named Penny Day in a white dress in the year 1948. She is the ghost of a teenager who died in a car crash near the Sycamore tree and is seen hitch hiking on the 126. She is cocky, engaging and flirty. Penny tries to get a ride from the crowd, telling her story as she is leading the crowd toward Station 5 where the Witch takes over in response to Penny insulting the Witch.
The Wise Woman – Female 50 to 75 age range
Character- 1 middle aged woman dressed in a dingy violet long dress -date 1848 during the Mexican American War. Her name is Blanca de Leon and she is a Curandera , a Mexican, a wise woman, healer, midwife and sometimes reads tarot cards -practicing only a little bit of magic.
Old Man Sycamore – Male 50 to 70 age range
Character – 1 old man who represents the spirit of the tree that has aged. The old man tells more of the tree's history, how it was used as a chapel for worship and weddings, and how it was used as a postal station. The old man tells a little history of the residents of the area - Indigenous Chumash, Mexican settlers, and Anglo farmers from back east. The old man thanks the crowd and encourages them to wave to the tree when they pass by.
